Apply config shows an error

Problem

In sapio365 or an EZ Suite product, you click Apply config on a client's card, and a message titled <client> could not be configured appears, for example Cursor could not be configured. The product opens its AI setup help in your browser at the same time.

Cause and solution

The message names the file involved and the reason. The product never rewrites a file it cannot read, so as not to damage it.

The message says

Likely cause

What to do

“… is not readable JSON -- leaving it alone” or “… is not readable -- leaving it alone”

The client's configuration file has a syntax error or comments (Visual Studio Code allows comments in mcp.json), or it cannot be read.

Open the file (the copy icon on the card gives its path), fix the syntax or remove the comments, then click Apply config again. Or paste the copied settings into the file yourself.

“could not create the folder holding …”

The client's configuration folder does not exist yet and cannot be created: permissions, or a redirected profile.

Start the client once so that it creates its folder, then try again. Check that you can write in your profile folders.

“could not write ….ytria.tmp (…)”

No write permission in the folder, a full disk, or security software blocking the product, such as Windows Security's Controlled folder access or an antivirus.

Check the folder permissions and free space, and allow the product in Controlled folder access or your antivirus, or ask your IT team.

“could not replace … (error 5: …)”

Access is denied: the file is read-only, belongs to another account (for example created by a program run as administrator), or is protected.

In the file's Properties, clear Read-only, and check its owner and permissions.

“could not replace … (error 32: …)”

Another program has the file open: the AI client itself, or a sync tool such as OneDrive.

Quit the AI client, click Apply config again, then restart the client.

“Claude Desktop runs its MCP servers through Node.js (npx), which was not found on this computer.”

Claude Desktop only: Node.js is not installed.

See Claude Desktop needs Node.js.

“… did not take mcp-<product> (exit code …)” or “… did not take mcp-ytria-docs (exit code …)”

ChatGPT/Codex: the codex command refused the entry.

Run the codex mcp add command from Configure an AI client manually in a terminal to see its error, and update Codex if needed.

“…: unexpected “…” in the extensions map -- leaving it alone”

Goose: its extensions are written in a form the product does not edit.

Paste the copied settings into config.yaml, or add the extensions with goose configure.

Only “The AI setup help has been opened in your browser to configure … manually.”

The client still does not reach both servers after Apply config. With ChatGPT/Codex, the product found the Codex configuration file but not the codex command it needs to write it.

For ChatGPT/Codex, install the Codex command line, restart the product and try again. For any client, you can set it up yourself.

Whatever the cause, you can still set the client up yourself: the copy icon on its card gives you both the file and what to put in it. See Configure an AI client manually.
