Claude Desktop needs Node.js

Problem

In sapio365 or an EZ Suite product, you click Apply config on the Claude Desktop card, and the message Claude Desktop could not be configured says: “Claude Desktop runs its MCP servers through Node.js (npx), which was not found on this computer.”

Cause

Claude Desktop starts its MCP servers as programs, instead of calling an address. The product reaches it through a small bridge, mcp-remote, run by npx, which comes with Node.js. Without npx, the product writes nothing, since the entries could not start.

Solution

  1. Install the LTS version of Node.js from nodejs.org, with its default options.

  2. In the product's AI Settings panel, click Apply config on the Claude Desktop card. If you installed Node.js in a folder of your own, restart the product first, so that it sees the updated PATH.

  3. Quit Claude Desktop completely (right-click its icon in the notification area, then Quit) and start it again.

  4. In Claude Desktop, Settings > Developer shows the product's server (for example mcp-sapio365 or mcp-scanez) and mcp-ytria-docs as running.

The first time, npx downloads mcp-remote from the npm registry: your computer needs access to it. Behind a corporate proxy, configure npm's proxy settings or ask your IT team.

Use the entries the product writes in the configuration file, not Claude's Connectors settings: custom connectors are meant for servers reachable from the internet, while the product's server is local to your computer.
